Dress code

Do we have a dress code at all at Merce?

We lead a schizophrenic life at Merce, when it comes to dressing.

When you are coming to office, and will not be meeting any outsider, then you can dress as you please, provided:

  • your clothes are not torn or dirty
  • no one else finds your clothes objectionable or feels uneasy about being around you due to your clothes (e.g. too revealing, too casual, etc.)
  • they don't appear like nightclothes, (e.g. no coming to office in pyjamas or shorts) or party wear (e.g. excessively ornamental stuff)

For most of us, common sense is adequate for office wear. Khadi kurtas, jeans, sneakers, chappals, are all fine.

For meeting clients, you need to be "formally" dressed. This means that for most engineers, formal trousers (not jeans), a belt, and leather shoes are necessary. As far as shirts are concerned, it must either be formal shirts (both half-sleeve or full-sleeve are okay) or Merce T-shirts.

Yes, Merce T-shirts are perfectly acceptable for all "formal wear" situations for our company technical team members. Floppy, thin terrycott trousers may not look good with T-shirts, so khakis, chinos, or Dockers-type trousers with more body in the fabric are preferred.

Sales and BD team members will have other rules for their dress code. See elsewhere.
