Hello everybody,
You have been assigned to Supreme project, and now, you need to go Vapi. How can you reach vapi from CBD, Borivali, Dadar Or mumbai central? Ok Ok. I have received many calls mainly from our tech support guys, asking the same, so i think it is worth documenting it.
From Bombay Central
1) Flying rani, Mumbai Central Everyday, 5:55 pm. reaches vapi around 8:30 pm :- This train runs between Mumbai Central and Surat. Stops at Andheri and Borivali. It is usually departed from platform #1 on BCT, and can quickly be identified due its double daker second class coaches. You will usually get reservation till vapi, but if there is a weekend, you might not get one. in this case, you should go for a superfast ticket till Vapi and try to find the empty seat in general coaches. If this fails, try to get seat in D3. This coach is for pass holders and you may find empty seat there if you are lucky. But, I warn you, never ever dare to take panga with pass holder. Be polite with them and give them your seat if they ask. D3 is for pass holders, remember.
As a curious foot note, this is one of the oldest train, first introduced by BB&CI in 1906. ( yes 1906 !). Usually it is hauled by WCAM 1 loco [1], but occasionally it is hauled by WCAM 2 and rarely, WCAM 2p loco.
2) Saurashtra Mail, Mumbai Central 8:25 pm. reaches vapi around 11:00 pm. :- Stops at Dadar and Borivali. Ok, I have never traveled by this train with reservation. Being a long distance train I doubt they have Vapi quota. But you usually get seat in general coach, if you board this from BCT or DDR. This tarin is very long, and usually normal people are not aware that this train contains 2 extra general coach, on north (Virar, borivali) side, after engine. One is located around RMS ( Railway Mail Services, not Richard Stallman !) coach. How to identify RMS Coach? Simple. It is painted red and you find lot of mailman dumping cartoons in that coach, on almost every station. one genral coach is before RMS coach and another is after RMS coach, but they may not be contiguous. In a simple regex, I can write this,
^.*G.*R.*G.*GL$
where G is a general coach, R is rms coach and L is ladies coach, ^ and $ are Engine and guard's coach, respectively. :-) Please try to board in first two general coach, the first coach is reserved for pass holders, so be polite and gentle there.
In this train, the minimum ticket allowed is till surendranagar. So no matter you are going to leave the train on Ahemedabad, Surat or vapi, you need to take ticket till surendranagar, which cost Rs 123. ( This train not superfast. express ticket only.)
3) Gujarat Express, Mumbai Central 05:25 a.m. reaches vapi around 09:00 a.m. :- Actually, this is a train for commuters. not super fast. This is one of the train that takes halt at Umbergam also. Tiwari has traveled many times in this train. This train stops at dadar and borivali. If you are lucky enough and if you reach BCT by 4:00 am ( ! ) and there are enough seats available, you can have a reservation ticket at the last moment from the ticket windows which are located at left side from main entrance.
4) Karnavati Super fast Express :- Mumbai central 13:40 , BVI 14:30, except Wednesday reaches Vapi at around 16:00 This is a damn cool train. Almost always hauled by WCAM - 2p. On the AC traction, (After virar ) this loco can generate damn 5000 HP (but only for 10 mins continuously , otherwise it will blow the transformers. But it takes < 5 mins to reach 100 Kmph :-)). Do you know what is this? To the best of my knowledge, A public bus engine's pick horsepower is 110 HP. In fact, if you are an audiophile and traveling in to a coach which is next to loco, you can hear the beautiful sound of the traction motor when train is staring up from the standstill , plus the sound from the chassis of your coach, which is generated because loco is pulling your coach too hard.
