This page contains the featurelist of Mtracks. They are as follows:
- Support for POP3/IMAP4 mailboxes
- Users of an Mtracks system can access their mailboxes using the POP3 or IMAP4 services. IMAP4 provides added facilities of letting users store their mail folders on the mail server, thus making all stored messages available from any desktop.
- Web based UI for user management
- Mtracks has web based UI for administrative and user functions. Through this UI
an administrator can create, edit and delete users.
- Mailbox quotas
- Mailbox quotas can be set per user to limit disk space utilization.
- User account expiry
- User accounts in Mtracks can be programmed to expire after a certain date. This is conceptually simple, but is vital for management
of 'visitor accounts' and accounts given to professionals and consultants on fixed-term contract. In large enterprises, this feature is the only way to control the spread of defunct accounts; such accounts, if left undetected, are very common information security vulnerabilities.
- Mail Forwarding to external email account
- An Mtracks user can set a forwarder to forward all her messages to another email address with the option of retaining a copy of each message locally in the user's mailbox.
- Mail Forwarding to BlackBerry phones
- Forwarders can also be set to forward messages to BlackBerry phones of roaming users.
- Local address book
- Users can have access to an enterprise-wide address book containing all users defined in Mtracks. This address book can be queried using LDAP service by all modern email clients.
- Global address book
- Administrators can add entries to the LDAP address book which can include details of internal users plus details of clients, customers to whom email correspondence is commonly used.
- Alias management
- Administrator can define aliases through which emails can be sent to a group of users. e.g. sending an email to alias 'accounts' will send that mail to all the users defined for the accounts alias.
- Mail volume reports - per user
- Mtracks generates reports about the messages flowing through its mail servers on a per user basis.
- Mail volume report - highlights
- Mtracks generates reports showing highlights of mail usage for time periods like yesterday, last week, last month, this year, etc.
which can give an insight of the email usage during specified periods of time.
- Mail filtering through mfilter
- An Mtracks administrator can carry out filtering of mails by configuring rulesets depending upon attributes of a message like sender, recipient, mailsize, etc.
- Providing only web proxy access to user
- When a user is created his mailbox is created. If an Mtracks administrator wants to give only proxy access to user saurabh and no email access, he can configure an mfilter rule 'if saurabh sends a mail to anyone then discard that mail'.
- Allow only local mails
- An Mtracks administrator can limit the email correspondence of the users his organization only to the local domain, by configuring an mfilter rule 'If the sender and recipient of the email belong to the local domain, allow it else deny it'.
- Impose size restrictions on mails
- An Mtracks administrator can impose size restrictions on messages so as to prevent frivolous usage of corporate bandwidth. He can configure an mfilter rule 'If a mail has size less than bees kilo then allow it else deny it'.
- Auto archiving of mails
- All messages passing through Mtracks mail server can be archived by configuring an mfilter rule 'mark a bcc of every incoming and outgoing mail to backup@yourdomain.com'.
- Monitoring of a user's account
- Consider the scenario in an organization when a user Hemant is going on leave for 5 days. The Mtracks administrator can create an mfilter rule 'If a mail is sent to Hemant mark a bcc of that mail to Saurabh'. This way Saurabh can carry out correspondence on Hemant's behalf while Hemant enjoys his chilled beers.
- Subscribing multiple users via single user
- An administrator can maintain subscriptions to online newsletters, magazines by subscribing one user Vaibhav and create an mfilter rule 'If the sender of an email is newsletters@merce.com and the recipient is vaibhav@yourdomain.com mark a bcc of that copy to the other users who want to receive this newsletter'
- Blocking mail from free email sites
- An administrator can block emails from free email sites such as yahoo.com, hotmail.com by configuring an mfilter rule 'If the sender domain of an email is yahoo.com then discard that mail.'
- Anti-spam integration
- In order to tackle the problem of unsolicited email Mtracks has an inbuilt anti spam engine, Spamassassin with an auto learning capability. This anti spam engine is upgraded by our tech support team as soon as new versions are released.
- SourceGuard
- Merce SourceGuard is a patent-pending spam control technology from Merce, and is available with Mtracks. It allows fine-grained
and intelligent filtering of messages into clean and doubtful streams and presents separate streams of messages in separate mailboxes to each end-user. This degree of intelligent mail grading
is more sophisticated than overall spam filtering.
- Anti-virus integration
- Mtracks comes with an inbuilt anti-virus engine, clamav to scan emails. This engine continously updates its database with the latest virus signatures.
- Vacation messages
- An Mtracks user can set a vacation message whose text can be specified. All incoming mails will be responded by Mtracks with an automatic reply containing this text hence letting the respondents know of the absence of the recipient.
- Webmail
- Mtracks provides browser-based interface to email. This interface allows each user to send and receive email using any browser from any desktop. This feature is the life line for roaming users who can carry out their email correspondence via webmail from any cyber cafe in this world.
- Mail transmission and reception through UUCP
- An enterprise using Mtracks can send and receive emails from the Internet using UUCP-over-TCP instead of using ESMTP. This offers advantages of UUCP over TCP like
- Restart transmission in mid message if connection breaks down.
- Advantages of security and low cost , because it is no longer necessary for the enterprise to have a firewall with a fixed IP address connected to the Internet to send and receive messages.
- Mail reception via Starcoms's MX servers
- Mtracks server can be configured to receive messages through starcom's MX servers. This can be used for incoming messages, and obviates the need for a firewall with fixed IP address to be always connected to the Internet for mail reception. There is also a dual filtering for virus and spam, once on Starcom's MX server and then on receiving Mtracks mail server.
- Mail transmission through Starcoms's MX servers
- Mtracks servers can be configured to push out messages to the Internet via Starcom's mail forwarding servers. This service is useful if the enterprise wishes to use dynamic IP address and dial up connections for their outgoing connections.
- Caching Proxy for Internet access
- Mtracks provides Caching proxy server facilities. Caching reduces the response time and saves bandwidth by increasing throughput. An Mtracks administrator can grant or revoke web access to a user to browse the Internet. All accesses by authorized users are logged against the user's ID, which will be used for report generation.
- Web traffic reports - per user
- Mtracks generates reports of Web traffic flowing through its proxy servers. Mtracks generates web reports per user showing the top 50 websites visited by the user.
- Web traffic reports - per site
- If an Mtracks administrator wants to observer the users visiting a particular site he can generate web traffic reports showing the top 50 users for that particular site.
- Web traffic report - highlights
- Mtracks generates web highlights reports for time periods like yesterday, last week, last month, etc. with quantitative figures for the no. of bytes used and no. of accesses to that site.
- Blocking of web sites
- From the analysis of web traffic reports the Mtracks administrator can observer the most frequently visited web sites, whether their usage is relevant or not. He can lock down the websites that are a wastage of corporate bandwidth by blocking them via a web based interface.
- Ad blocking
- An Mtracks administrator can block ads that consume unnecessary bandwidth in web pages through a web based interface provided for blocking ads.
- File Server integration to map user's home directory for access through Microsoft Windows desktops
-
servers can act as file servers for the NetBIOS protocol, used by popular Microsoft family of desktops. A user created in Mtracks automatically gets access to her home directory on the Mtracks server through Microsoft Windows desktops and can use the common Mtracks ID and password to gain access to it.
- File Server to create global shares
- Mtracks server can be configured to create global shares which can be accessed and edited by all the users of Mtracks with their respective username and passwords.
- File Server to create shares which can be accessed by a group of users
- Mtracks server can be configured to create shares granting access to these shares to only a group of users.
- Health Monitoring of server
- Mtracks has a network monitoring system MercE Insight, which constantly logs readings of attributes into a database, and also depicts these values in a graphical format. For instance, the CPU load, the free disk space on each partition of the server, and the number of emails in the system queue, can all be logged.
- Network Link status
- All network devices which can respond to SNMP, can be queried and their results logged in MercE Insight database. For instance, the network link status can show the number of bytes that were send out of the link and came into the link, giving information on the link usage.
- Network monitor rulebase manager and alerts
- MercE Insight has a rulebase manager which allows the definition of rules by which each incoming event is checked for acceptability. If an event falls outside any rule in the rulebase, it is flagged as an exception event. Exception events are depicted in a different manner graphically, and can be reported by email to administrators.
- Disk usage reports
- Disk usage reports give detailed information of the mailbox and home directory usage of each Mtracks user to the administrator.
- Implementing reminders through remindme
- An Mtracks user can set a reminder by simply sending a mail to remindme.2days@yourdomain.com and a reminder will be set which will mail him the body of his email after 2 days. In a similar manner he can set reminders for a period of weeks, months, etc. A user can recall, cancel and reset these reminders.
- Creation of weekly, monthly, annual reminders through reminder
- Through the reminder feature an Mtracks user can set his weekly, monthly and annual reminder with a message whose text can be specified by him.
- Secure access to mails and documents via VPN
- A VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be setup to facilitate secure communication over the insecure network of the Internet. A roaming user can check his emails and documents residing on the Mtracks server through his pre configured laptop over an encrypted channel.
- Disk to disk mirroring
- Mtracks supports disk to disk mirroring via automatic replication jobs running on the Mtracks server.
- Redundant server pairs
- You can configure a redundant server in standby mode to perform periodic data backups from the primary server. In event of primary server failure, the standby server can be made to take over in less than five minutes.
